Echo360 is a web-based application that uses a browser to view content and as such has certain browser requirements. Beyond ensuring you're using a supported browser, there are also some configuration settings you may need to check or change to successfully use Echo360.
If you access Echo360 directly through the Echo360 URL, you may not need to change any of your browser configurations. However, if you access Echo360 through an LMS such as Canvas or Moodle or Blackboard, and PARTICULARLY if the Echo360 window or media player is opened inside of a browser frame, the below-listed changes to the Chrome browser settings will be necessary in order to view Echo360 class recordings, LIVE streams, or embedded video content.
IMPORTANT: If you encountered the Enable Cookies message when trying to view Echo360 content, you will need to change your cooking settings as described in the section immediately below. You MUST ALSO clear your browser cache, as well as cookie and site data, to ensure you are no longer blocked from viewing content. Press Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + Delete to open a dialog box for clearing cache, cookies, and browser history, as shown in this figure. Be sure to select the proper Time range from the drop-down list.
Cookies contain some of the current session and authorization information we need to know who you are and to allow you to view content. This is especially important where a main website such as the LMS or your University Portal tries to open Echo360 inside of a frame. In this case, the cookies are necessary for the two authentication mechanisms to talk to each other and open Echo360 content for you.
Historically, Chrome has allowed Cookies by default. HOWEVER, recent updates to the Chrome browser have changed these defaults and may require you to perform the procedure below to allow them. This may be required immediately after browser installation, or to change the settings after a browser update.
To allow cookies in Chrome
- Open Chrome
- Click the Configuration and Customization button on the top right of your Chrome toolbar, then select Settings from the menu that appears, as shown in the below figure.
- Type the word "cookies" in the search box at the top of the Settings page to be directed to the Cookies settings in Chrome.
- In the middle of the page, you should see the Privacy and Security section. Click on Cookies and other site data, as indicated in the above figure.
- In the Cookie settings page, select Allow all cookies if it is not already selected, as shown in the below figure. This ensures that Echo360 content will appear properly, even if embedded in an LMS or other website frame.
- When finished, you can close the Settings tab, or click Privacy and security from the options on the left to review other browser security settings.
